A Greek philosopher once said, “Change is the only constant in life”. We see this in our life every day. From a young age, we are exposed to change. When we are kids, our education system grooms us to learn new and increasingly complex subjects, friends and sports introduce new experiences every day. As we transition to adult life, we experience changes in our personal life – falling in love, getting married, starting a family, etc. Professionally, we may experience changes in our jobs, careers. We anticipate and welcome many of these changes as expected as we transition from one phase of our life to another.
The journey for these changes is well known and we may have many friends and family helping with these changes. However, there are some changes that may not happen on their own but is important for our long-term well-being. A common example of such change is learning a new skill at our job or changing our career path. We may be forced to work on these goals due to unexpected changes in our employment or motivated by our desire to take on more responsibilities. Such changes are complex and require us to considerably stretch ourselves. These are the most challenging goals as we will be operating outside our comfort zone. The path is often unclear in such goals, with no certainty as to when we will be able to achieve the goal. However, achieving these stretch goals could have a lasting impact to our personal and professional lives.
We often struggle with stretch goals. This is quite normal. When you are looking to achieve something entirely new and different, you are not going to be good at it immediately. Do not despair or give up easily. Expect challenges and learn from them. Look for a mentor who may follow your goal and support/motivate you. If you know a friend who may be in a similar journey, form an alliance with your friend to work on your goals together. The road to success with these goals is not easy, but the results can be sweet. Stretch goals are important part of your life. Embrace them. Achieve your stretch goals by using Goalore features such as having your friends follow your goal and forming alliances to work on common goals.
